Due to a broad Verizon internet outage in the Tampa Bay area, I chose to seek refuge in a change of scenery and work from a local Starbucks yesterday. Here are just a few things I’ve learned:
1. There are a lot of “regulars” and the baristas do an amazingly good acting job pretending that they like these patrons — then chuckle at them when they leave.
2. By their mannerisms and appearance alone, I was fairly accurate in my guesses of what type of drink most people ordered.
3. Overall, patrons at Starbucks are really high maintenance & obnoxious with their orders. This behavior is not only tolerated, it seems to be encouraged.
4. Starbucks is a really good place to discuss divorces, set up trust funds for your kids, start new business ventures, interview granny nannies, discuss baby names for hours on end, meet for a secret rendezvous, conjure up conspiracy theories, and pretend that green-tea-half-caf-soy-frappuccino-with-extra-whip is a health food and not a milkshake.
